In this solar observation, we were able to engage with about 60 students coming from nearby slums. These students learnt many facts about our parent star-The Sun and its family i.e. The Solar System. They were made to observe the sun safely through the Dobsonian telescope and SKYBIKE using solar filters. They were also made to observe the Sun through solar view goggles. They also learnt the concept of safe solar observation and were shown the demonstration of an activity to show the harmful effect of viewing sun directly.

The coordinator as well as the students were thrilled to observe the Sun through the SKYBIKE, telescope and solar view goggles. The students were very excited to learn more facts about the Universe and had many-many questions to ask. Many myths were busted as the students were told science behind the commonly held beliefs. The students were so happy that they didn’t want the team to leave and they kept insisting that the team may return soon. The coordinator of the NGO, Mr. Prashant Pal said, that it was a very exciting and learning session for the students and said he’d like to conduct many such programs for our students through associating with us.
